Clean & Sober Transitional Living
“I know for a fact that I wouldn’t still be sober if not for ‘Mad House’. The support I get from the staff and peers is absolutely amazing.”
For almost four decades, Don Troutman and Clean and Sober Transitional Living (CSTL) have served as a cornerstone of the Sacramento recovery community. This enduring legacy is what makes CSTL special and why it’s widely regarded as a gold standard for sober living in Northern California.
Clean and Sober Transitional Living is more than just a roof over a resident’s head or a program to follow – “we are a community of adults sharing the profound journey toward lifelong sobriety”.
Beyond providing a stable environment, CSTL emphasizes accountability and civic duty; residents are active fixtures in the community, frequently volunteering for major events like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. CSTL residents are taught that recovery flourishes through giving back.
“CSTL is the reason I am who I am today.” This sentiment is shared by many of the 7,000+ alumni who have passed through the doors of Clean and Sober Transitional Living over the last 37 years. This vast, proud network of graduates proves that CSTL is more than just a transitional program—it is a community powerhouse and a lifelong catalyst for change.

It's a safe clean and sober environment that's very close to the Sacramento city buss system.Theres many stores right across the street, very close to the American River as well. And of course A.A meetings are located right in the house so you don't miss out on any recovery.

Words can not express how grateful I am for my social part of dons model with "peers helping peers". Every day I wake up at 4 am and hear my heart beat for my next level of soberity. It's truly an honor to be a part of a family that is there for the long haul. Just know you are going to want recovery as bad a you want to breathe.

This place is a beautiful part of Fair Oaks. It has helped so many who are willing to do the work to help themselves.
